Community Projects

So, you see Rezurgence at events, with the events tents and of course this site and know what we are about.

We, like you, have been lucky enough to experience the thrills of mountain biking and BMX riding – it’s an awesome experience, a lifestyle for sure.

When we set up Rezurgence one of the things we wanted to do was to support riders and go to the ghetto areas where riding with faith can make a real difference. With this in mind, we have a number of projects being actively worked and this page outlines them.

Imagine the satisfaction when you see a lad get into his riding and turn all that unspent energy into riding street, park, cross country or downhill – it’s awesome. Mountain biking and BMX gives a fellowship, a discipline, an inspiration and sometimes hope.

If you feel that you want to be involved in these projects in anyway or want to find out more then please shout – all are welcome.

BIRBS Project

Name:  BIg Red BuS

Big Red Bus

Outline:  BIRBS is an old London bus that has foldable ramps on each side plus a vert wall at the rear.  The upper deck will be a Smoothie bar and the lower deck will be a multi media suite etc.

BIRBS can be used a learning platform as well as a riding one.  The aim is to run inspirational based training days in deprived areas with groups totalling 40 youth and adults on bikes supplied by Rezurgence.

Status:  Currently we have secured the monies to buy the bus (£12, 500) and have been provided a support vehicle.  Active funding discussions and applications with agencies, regional councils and private funders are ongoing.

Workbench

Workbench

Name:  Workbench

Outline: Workbench is a mobile bike workshop.  Two trained mechanics will take the workshop into deprived areas and offer free servicing and repair.  The idea is that we keep people riding safely and exercising.  Workbench is to be supported by the cycling industry.

Status:  This is a new project and funding initiatives are currently being developed. Stay tuned here for more news.

Beacon

Name:  Beacon

Outline: Ever thought about your frustrating day on the way home, the workload, the pace of life, the annoying boss and filling him in? The list is endless!  Well go easy coz most of us have and some of us have filled the boss in – not good!.

With that in mind, we set up Beacon which is community based and utilises the Rezurgence events tents as simply a buffer to unwind chat and chill – you’ll be surprised how a ten minute rant over a coffee to an experienced ear can bring you down before you go home.

The tents will be placed at strategic places like train stations so that people from all walks of life can simply “drop in”.

Status: Beacon will be launched in May 2007 with a first venue to be confirmed.  Stay tuned for more news.
