12 Questions up Close & personal with Steve at Chasing Trails
Chasing Trails contacted RezurgenceHQ after seeing us on Twitter – thanks Twitter! Steve has setup chasing trails to help people enjoy the outdoors through riding. A unique part of Steve’s work (in a non threatening way) is to run MTB holidays where people who’re already following Christ can also have space to discover how to get better at it! I guess we all need to do that! So enjoy this brief insight into the man behind Chasing Trails – Thanks to Steve for doing this interview.
- Who are You?
Hi, I’m Steve. I’ve mountain biked for about 19 years. Married to Joy & have 2 kids, Mark & Emma. - Where are you based?
Scarborough, for Dalby & the Moors. - Is this home?
It feels like home now, but I was born in Wales & spent a long time in the Midlands. Still like it when Wales win at rugby. - Egg & Chips or Egg, Chips & Beans?
Egg & Chips, beans are for toast! - Explain Chasing Trails in three words?
Riding; space; people. - Cool name – how did it come about?
It’s a rare bit of creativity from me – it came from a love of wild trails, I really like to ride new trails & show others. - So What does Chasing Trails actually do?
Help people enjoy their biking more with skills coaching, help people enjoy the outdoors by running guided tours, holidays. Finally, keeping riders safer when miles from nowhere with skills learnt on maintenance courses. - What’s your vision with it?
As well as helping people enjoy their biking I want them to see that for me it’s Jesus that makes the biking & everything else worth it. A specific is to run some MTB holidays where people who’re already following Christ can also have space to discover how to get better at it. - Who inspires you?
A philosopher called Dallas Willard, Rob Bell from Mars Hill Church & in biking, has to be Peaty. And friends. - Why?
Dallas Willard’s books have given me a solid, fresh understanding of what Jesus taught. Rob Bell for his creativity & insight. Peaty because he’s world champ & nearly as old as me! Friends sometimes see God in my life where I can’t, which helps me get back on track. - Top 3 riders today?
Don’t like to choose just 3, but limiting it to DH, Steve Peat, Sam Hill & Sabrina Jonnier. Feel free to disagree! - In 5 years where will you be?
I think it’ll be something like now, with whatever else God brings in. Whatever He wants really. He knows much better than me, I want to get better at hearing. One thing I want to avoid is becoming a manager. It’s not me! I need to keep on the trails where I belong, so if Chasing Trails grows that’ll be the job of someone who can!
